Drums Along The Hudson

On Sunday June 14th, 2015 Beyond Coal volunteers attended the 13th Annual Drums along the Hudson Festival at Inwood Hill Park. The Festival brings people together from across the five boroughs and the eastern seaboard to celebrate Native American cultural heritage. At the Festival’s Environmental Tent, there was an intentional space created for groups fighting for justice and sustainability, locally and nationwide.

Earlier this month, another polluting New York coal plant asked for yet another multimillion dollar bailout. Instead of bailing out the very companies that pollute our air and water that  money could be spent transitioning New York away from coal towards renewable energy.

Utility Confirms Transmission Upgrade Better than a Coal Bailout

A filing by the New York State Electric and Gas company validated long-standing concerns that a bailout for the uneconomical Cayuga plant is unnecessary and a bad deal for bill payers. NYSEG’s proposal, filed with the Public Service Commission (PSC) late Friday, affirms the need for transmission upgrades in the Auburn area at a much lower cost than bailing out the Cayuga coal plant.
