Earlier this month, another polluting New York coal plant asked for yet another multimillion dollar bailout. Instead of bailing out the very companies that pollute our air and water that  money could be spent transitioning New York away from coal towards renewable energy.

Utility Confirms Transmission Upgrade Better than a Coal Bailout

A filing by the New York State Electric and Gas company validated long-standing concerns that a bailout for the uneconomical Cayuga plant is unnecessary and a bad deal for bill payers. NYSEG’s proposal, filed with the Public Service Commission (PSC) late Friday, affirms the need for transmission upgrades in the Auburn area at a much lower cost than bailing out the Cayuga coal plant.

Now his Department of Public Service is looking for your input as they plan our transition to a renewable energy future.  The Governor’s "Reforming the Energy Vision" sets a plan a future full of distributed solar, battery storage, and energy efficiency – but we can still do better.
