Philly ICO (Inspiring Connections Outdoors) is a Sierra Club outreach program that aims to give urban youth a first-hand experience in the outdoors. Youth who ordinarily would not have access to natural places are provided the opportunity to spend a day hiking, canoeing, or exploring a natural environment.  ICO volunteers are trained to organize and lead outings into local parks, where participants can learn to enjoy, respect, and protect the wilderness.  As John Muir wrote, “There is a love of wild nature in everybody, an ancient mother-love ever showing itself, whether recognized or no, and however covered by cares and duties.”  Enabling youth to tap into this love is one of the primary goals of Philly ICO.
