Dave Melton grew up in the Mojave Desert close to the Southern Sierra. He has been leading local and national outings for many years and is currently outings chair for the Tahquitz Group in Southern California. He recently retired from a career as a mechanical engineer and now volunteers as a trail patroller in Joshua Tree National Park. When not hiking he enjoys flying small planes and playing the piano.
