Jane Sponsler began her outdoor exploration as a teen in New Mexico where she hiked, skied, and rode her horse on the trails near her mountainside home. After moving to California and raising a family, she returned to the trails with her first backpacking trip to Yosemite in 2011. Enamored by the experience, Jane has since backpacked the trails in the Sierra Nevada including a thorough hike of the John Muir Trail, and has ventured to the Grand Canyon, Wyoming’s Wind River Range, Colorado, and Olympic National Park. After early retirement from a career in healthcare information technology, she joined Sierra Club National Outings to share the simplicity and adventure of exploring remote trails on foot and to inspire others to push their boundaries in wild and beautiful settings.
