John Killeen lived in Brooklyn most of his life, but developed a love for the outdoors during summers spent in upstate New York, where he hiked, camped, and learned to paddle a canoe. He has paddled extensively in the Adirondacks, the North Hudson, the Delaware River, and other lakes and rivers in the Northeast and West. John revels in the solitude of paddling quiet wilderness rivers and lakes, but also enjoys the excitement of running rapids. He currently lives in Maine with his wife. Now that he’s retired, he spends more time outdoors and has become more active in protecting wilderness areas.
