Ron Franklin has been leading Sierra Club outings since 2006. His principal enjoyments are hiking, paddling, backpacking, and “peak bagging” — most notably Africa's 19,340-foot Mt Kilimanjaro and the Thorong La Pass (almost 18,000 feet) in the Annapurna Mountains of Nepal.
His favorite adventures are in the mountains and rivers of the West and Northeast. Internationally, Ron has led outings in Scotland, Ireland, Spain, and Tanzania. He currently lives in Oak Ridge, NC with wife Bernadette. They have also lived in and enjoyed the outdoors in Oregon, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, Hawaii, Japan, and Spain.
