The IEA published its annual World Energy Outlook today, which shows that progress is being made to move the global economy to renewable resources, but there is still too much reliance on fossil fuels that put energy security and the future livability of the planet at risk. Thanks to existing policies, including the U.S.’s Inflation Reduction Act, IEA predicts global fossil fuel demand will peak by 2030 and urges that the transition to renewable energy must happen as quickly as possible. “The sooner the better,” according to IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol.

Moreno Valley, Calif. — Last Monday, October 16, Judge Chad Firetag of the Riverside Superior Court overturned approvals for a massive warehouse project near homes and schools in Moreno Valley, handing a major victory to community and environmental groups who argued it violated state environmental law. Today, those groups rallied outside Moreno Valley City Hall to celebrate the ruling.

ALBANY, NY--  Today, Governor Hochul vetoed a well-vetted bill that is critical for Empire Wind’s cable landing to come onshore and connect to the electric grid. This comes just over a week after the  Governor and the Public Service Commission rejected an inflation adjustment petition that would’ve supported existing offshore wind projects while protecting ratepayers from volatile and unpredictable fracked gas prices.

Denver, CO - Today, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) formally approved the Colorado Clean Car rule, a major policy to slash tailpipe pollution and accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). As adopted, the program requires that 82% of new cars sold in the state are ZEVs in 2032, improving Coloradans’ access to clean vehicles while reducing climate-harming emissions.
