Houston, TX -- As Hurricane Harvey, having dumped more than 50 inches of rain, begins to leave the Texas coast, many throughout the region continue to live in fear of not only flooding, but also of increased effects of the dozens of chemical plants, oil and gas refineries, and Superfund sites that are littered throughout the communities. The concentration of refineries and industrial chemical facilities have burdened the communities with ongoing pollution and environmental injustice, which Harvey has only magnified.

PUEBLO, COLORADO -- This afternoon, Xcel Energy and a diverse group of businesses, consumers, and electricity developers filed a proposal with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to explore replacing electric capacity from two aged coal-fired units at Pueblo's Comanche Generating Station with cleaner, more cost-effective alternatives.

Washington, DC -- Today, the Sierra Club submitted comments on Donald Trump’s Department of Justice revision of Harley Davidson’s punishment for Clean Air Act violations. Last year, the Obama Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice reached the consent decree to settle claims that the Harley Davidson installed “defeat devices” intended to evade pollution tests for Harley Davidson motorcycles.

CHARLESTON, WV -- Today, the Sierra Club and Appalachian Mountain Advocates formally requested that the Fayette County Commission deny the necessary zoning change to allow Mountain Valley Pipeline, LLC (MVP) to build a compressor station in their county. The MVP would transport fracked gas through West Virginia into Virginia. MVP wishes to build a compressor station for the pipeline on three parcels of land currently zoned for residential uses in Fayette County.

Details about reduction of acreage was not made public. Utah continues to wait for the details that will outline the fate of our precious Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. During the wait, crowds of Utahns have and are expected to flood Representative Rob Bishop’s town halls demonstrating their discontent with the constant local attacks on invaluable public lands.
