Salt Lake City, UT — Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced recipients for the Energy CLASS Prize, the most recent grant awarded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). One of the school districts to receive a 2023 award is the Granite School District in Salt Lake County. The grant will allow for the district to increase capacity, and establish and train staff who can identify and implement energy and health improvements in Granite facilities.

NEW YORK – On Thursday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed the 2023-2024 State Budget into law. Notably, the budget marks the passage of a first-of-its-kind statewide fossil fuel ban in new construction starting in 2026. The budget also includes $400 million in funding for the Environmental Protection Fund, the addition of over 265 jobs across multiple environmental agencies, and other environmental victories.

Under the guise of “permitting” reform, the bill would undermine bedrock environmental laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), force dirty infrastructure projects on vulnerable communities, and jeopardize the clean air and water of communities across the country.

TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey can avoid up to 362 hospital visits and save drivers nearly $60 billion by transitioning to zero-emission electric cars and light-duty trucks, according to a new report. The New Jersey Advanced Clean Cars II Program report investigated the climate, health, and job benefits if the state were to adopt Advanced Clean Cars II, a program which, by 2035, would require that every new car and light-duty truck sold in New Jersey be zero-emission. The report was prepared by ERM and commissioned by NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and the Sierra Club.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing to begin understanding how to strengthen public faith and confidence in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is the only federal court in the country that lacks a formal set of ethical standards. Former Fourth Circuit Judge J. Michael Luttig, a conservative, submitted testimony to the Judiciary Committee this morning stating that the Supreme Court should “subject itself to the highest possible professional and ethical standards that would render the Court beyond reproach.”
