An avid hiker and paddler since raising two sons in Scouting during his career in the Army, John Gawlik has backpacking and paddling experience in such varied places as Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan’s upper peninsula, Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, the Grand Canyon, Rockies, Sierra Nevada, and Australia. A retired pediatric dentist and certified Wilderness First Responder, he loves sharing his passion for the wilderness with others. After growing up in New Jersey, living in Germany, Italy, Hawaii, and many other places across the continental U.S., John now enjoys the desert life with his wife in Las Vegas, Nevada. There he plays saxophone and frequently escapes to the nearby mountains to hike or ski, and to the water to paddle.
